concrete aprons,

Overview
Two concrete aprons at the roll-up vehicle doors of Fam Vans' commercial building in Costa Mesa. Each was formed against the existing asphalt and concrete lot and graded from the door threshold out to it, then placed, hand floated and troweled, jointed and given a broom finish. EMAE & Sons crews placed and finished the concrete themselves, and the yard was washed down the same afternoon.

Questions about work like this
Does EMAE & Sons pour its own concrete?
Yes. EMAE & Sons Inc places and finishes concrete flatwork with its own crews rather than subcontracting it. On a commercial apron job in Costa Mesa the firm's own finishers placed, hand floated, troweled, jointed and broom finished the slabs, and the firm holds Class A General Engineering alongside Class B General Building.
What is a concrete apron?
EMAE & Sons Inc builds concrete aprons as the section of slab between a building's vehicle door and the parking lot or street it opens onto. An apron takes the wheel loads of everything entering the building and carries water away from the threshold, so it is formed to grade, jointed to control cracking and usually broom finished for traction. The firm placed two at a commercial building in Costa Mesa.
Why is a concrete apron broom finished rather than smooth?
EMAE & Sons Inc broom finishes concrete that carries vehicles or foot traffic outdoors. Dragging a broom across the surface while it is still plastic leaves fine ridges that give tires and shoes grip when the slab is wet, where a steel-troweled surface would be slick. The aprons the firm placed in Costa Mesa were finished this way.
Does EMAE & Sons work in Orange County?
Yes. EMAE & Sons Inc is based in Thousand Oaks and works across Los Angeles and Ventura counties and into Orange County. The firm has placed commercial concrete aprons at a building in Costa Mesa, and it holds California license #1107216, Class A, B and C-36.
